'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Watson-Challis's resurface.

The Luton News/Gazette reports that the Watson-Challis family have contacted the newspaper and informed them that they do not believe the Junction 10 project is dead.

Sheila Watson-Challis is reported as having e-mailed the newspaper from Florida and said that plans were still in place, and progressing, to deliver a new stadium, named as The Gateway Stadium, to Luton Town Football Club, on land they own at Junction 10. This despite what she described as delays caused by people who are more concerned with other issues than the good of the club.

She disclosed that the land was costing the Watson-Challis family £250,000 per annum to retain, and asked of Luton Fans, why they would be doing so if Junction 10 was not still a viable option.

She then suggested that they could sell the land tomorrow for £5 Million and walk away, but it is her hope that her 82-year-old husband would realise his dream of walking up the steps to the new stadium and cutting the ribbon.

She also mentioned that her family owns other land in Luton, which would also be suitable for the project, if needed, and that the Council have confirmed that a development on that land could be completed before the Junction 12 option currently being mooted by the Board.

Meanwhile, fans await the announcement from the Football Club with ‘Big News' believed to be financial restructuring that will ‘change the direction of the Club'. This I believe to be related to Cliff Bassett's desire to invest again in the club along with other interested parties. However, this may be dependent on a project on Mr Bassett's land at Junction 12 of the M1.

There would therefore seem to be a bit of a standoff between the Watson-Challis's and the current Board and their potential new investors.

Where would Luton fans like to see their new ground or do you not really care as long as you get it!?

As long as it is in Luton and has decent facilities and doesn't involve ground sharing with MK Dongs we don't mind!
