Stef C of Vital football's Southampton site writes:
'Saints and Chelsea legend Peter Osgood suffered a heart attack yesterday and passed away, while attending a funeral; he was 59 years old.
He was remembered by a minutes silence at the England v Uruguay game last night and there will be tributes paid at grounds across the country this weekend.
Osgood was nicknamed 'King of Stamford Bridge' by Chelsea fans and became a legend with The Blues. Stamford Bridge became his spiritual home, he made 380 appearances for the Blues, scoring 150 goals.
He moved to The Dell in March 1975, and was Saints record signing after Lawrie McMenemy paid £275,000 for the striker.
His biggest achievement for Saints was winning the FA Cup in 1976. The following year he also made 6 appearances in our European Cup Winners Cup campaign, scoring twice.
Since his retirement Peter ahs been involved in media work and matchday hospitality at both Southampton and Chelsea.
His sudden death is a sad loss to football and our thoughts are with his family.'
