Newell to sign new contract

Luton Town manager Mike Newell agreed to sign a new four-year contract to remain with the Hatters.

This follows in the wake of new rumours that he was ready to join Leicester in the summer, printed in several daily newspapers.

The news will come as very welcome by most Luton fans and certainly by the players, many of whom have publicly declared their support for the manager and their hopes that he will stay to take the team on to greater things.

A delighted Bill Tomlins told the official website www.lutontown.co.uk :

'With so much national and local speculation and miss-information on Michael's future as our manager, I am pleased to confirm, with Michael's approval, that the clubs offer of a new four-year contract has been agreed and will be signed after consultation with his solicitor.

'Michael's tremendous achievements, since his arrival at the club, are well documented and I believe that this new long term commitment from him, reflects Michael's loyalty and belief that he can further develop and achieve his football ambitions with Luton Town Football Club.

'His record speaks volumes and we are delighted that he has agreed to commit his future with us. Even when speculation was rife, Michael always indicated his desire to stay with us.'

I trust that we will give him a special ovation on Saturday at the Derby County match and that the team celebrate the news with an extra special performance.
