Luton reserves lose 100% record

Luton began the better of the two sides and took the lead in the 9th minute when Ryan Charles lobbed keeper Chris Dunn from 8 yards.

Edward Asafu-Adjaye the keeper soon afterwards with a far post header and trialist Anton Robinson brought a good save out of the busy stopper with a powerful drive.

Dean Brill was a spectator for the first twenty minutes but made a brilliant stop from close range when Ryan Gilligan slipped a pass to Scott Cross but Brill closed him down and blocked the shot.

The Cobblers were getting more of the play as half time approached and Brill saved a fierce Gilligan drive and then watched helplessly as Daniel May shot wide with Brill beaten.

Early in the second half, Northampton signalled their intentions when Gilligan got free near goal, and it took a good block by Mountford to deny him the equaliser. However, it was not much longer in coming.

Scott Cross got goal side of his marker and slipped the ball easily past Brill to level the scores. The two teams cancelled each other out for the most part of the remainder of the game, but in injury time, Rob Sinclair headed off the line after a corner kick was headed goalwards by Liam Dolman, and then got forward himself to slide the ball across the face of goal just out of the reach of the onrushing Ryan Charles.

It would have been hard luck on either team to have lost in an entertaining tussle between the top two teams in the division, and Luton preserved the seven point gap over Northampton.

Northampton Reserves: Dunn, May, Bojic, Coker, Mitchell, Bonner (Dolmon 59), Maude (Walton 85), Green, Cross, Gilligan, Gearing. Subs not used: Arlick, Sampson.

uton Reserves: Brill; Asafu-Adjaye, Mountford, Bevan, Sinclair, Maitland, Robinson, Stevens, Andrew (Kenneford 83), Charles, Osborne-Ricketts (sub Harrison). Subs not used: Barrett, Preston, Pendleton.
