Luton dig out a win

Poor conditions at Grays led to a scrappy game which the wind won for most of it. However, Luton were far to strong in defence for their hosts and I doubt Grays would have scored if they played 'til Sunday.

All in all considering the weather and the pitch it was a very professional performance by the boys, and if Richard Money can continue to get that level of effort from the team then catching Oxford is certainly not out of the question.

It was interesting to note that the new manager had selected a team that he felt were suited to the type of opposition and the conditions on the day; a very brave concept - tactics! :-)

As it turned out the tactics were spot on for the game and goals either side of half time proved enought to take the points.

The most impressive part for me was the fact that the whole team played as a team and worked hard for each other. It wasn't pretty at times but it was effective and new loan keeper Pilkington was a spectator for most of the game.

As in the FA cup match against Grays, were it not for a good performance by ex Hatters trialist keeper Preston Edwards, the Hatters may have run riot. In the event, Tom Craddock latched onto a loose ball in the opposing penalty area and finally broke his duck from open play since the beginning of September, by thrashing it into the net. Let's hope that it helps his confidenece and he can get back last season's scoring habit.

Five or so minutes into the second half, skipper Kevin Nicholls robbed Bunce in midfield and slotted a great pass to Gallen, and he held it up made himself a yard and clipped in a shot which nestled in the bottom corner although it may have taken a deflection on the way.

That's 4 from 6 games for Gallen and playing him up front has certainly paid dividends. Not only can he hold up play and spot a pass when he gets the ball to feet, he can also finish when he is played forward enough.

All in all a thoroughly professional performance with little to recommend it as a spectacle, but in our position I'd take a performance like that every match if it rendered three points!
