Luton sign Nelthorpe on loan

Luton Town have confirmed that they have signed York City's left winger Craig Nelthorpe on loan until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old gave an impressive performance in front of manager Richard Money in the reserves against Peterborough on Wednesday afternoon.

Left winger Nelthorpe began his career at Doncaster Rovers and Money saw him play then and was impressed.

However, he was loaned out to several clubsincluding Hucknall, Kidderminster, Gateshead, Halifax and Darlington.

In last year's Jnuary transfer window he joined Oxford United and then moved to York City in the summer.

He missed the start of the season through illness and went to Barrow on loan scoring twice and leading the Cumbrians to ask to extend the loan period. However, Craig was advised of Luton's interest and he decided that he would like to join the Hatters.

Nelthorpe has a blend of pace and skill and could well be a very important signing down the left for the Hatters.

Money told Luton Town's official website:

'We're grateful to York for letting us have a look at him in the reserves on Wednesday and he was desperately keen to come here.

'I've known about him for a while when he was at Doncaster and I was managing Walsall and he was always one I thought 'there might be a player there'.

'York sent out a circular last week notifying clubs of his availability and he came down to play for us on Wednesday and did well.

'The left-side of midfield position is one where we could do with a bit more competition.

'So to have a natural left-footer that can go past people gives us a little something different than what we've got going into the second half of the season.'

Nelthorpe has travelled with the first team squad to the North East for tomorrow's game with Gateshead.
