'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Luton: It's do or die today!

After yet another 1-0 mugging at York on Thursday, even though self inflicted, Luton have it all to do this afternoon at Kenilworth Road.

Again Luton dominated a match this time at Bootham Crescent, but failed to capitalise on the lion's share of possession and squandered myriad chances and then paid the penalty from an ill-advised backpass by Blackett when row Z beckoned. The one person you do not need to gift possession to in front of goal is Richard Brodie, and in the dying seconds, the Town central defender did just that and it was curtains for the Hatters.

Failure to beat York City now in three attempts does not bode well, but recent home form has been much better, and the least we can expect is a victory even if by the slimmest margin, and victory in extra time or by penalties. Anything else is unthinkable after the season we have had.

A roller coaster ride was promised and it has certainly been that, but after the recent string of undefeated matches it was a shock to lose at York.

The match was petering out to a 0-0 draw when Blackett had his moment of madness, and till then York had hardly threatened, and it was 90 minutes of very professional effort wasted in conceding the goal.

Richard Money was proud of the team performance in defeat and said afterwards:

He said: 'One word, proud. All you want is to go into the playoffs with your players in good form and playing well and they certainly haven't let anyone down tonight.

'It's disappointing. He has one kick, Brodie, and scored. Shane Blackett has made one mistake in 90 minutes and it has cost him. They players will rally and get around Shane and pull him up.

'If the game had finished 0-0 it would have been one of the best 0-0s I've seen in my life.'

For today's second leg, Money expects to have the full squad available less Nelthorpe, and has said that all eventualities have been planned for, with Penalty kick practice included, and asks that all fans turn up in a sea of orange and make the atmosphere intimidating for the visitors. He also asks for patience and support for the players when things are not going so well in addition to when they are.

Come on you Hatters! You can do this!
