At last after taking several days to get over the devastation of Luton's failure in the play-offs, I can at last offer my take on proceedings.
While Luton had became what I believe to be the best team in the Conference over the last few weeks of the regular season, ironically they peaked a tad too early and were undone by a team which had very little ambition other than to avoid defeat.
Fair play to York City, they did their homework better than we did and over the two games did what they had to do to blunt our potent strike force if recent weeks while having the guile to nick a goal in each match.
What has to be done now is to clear out the dead wood, work with the better players and add to the squad and with the knowledge gained from a fairly successful season, ensure that we hit the ground running in the new season and make sure we finish top of the pile this time around.
It has been a roller coaster ride as was promised, but unfortunately the ups of recent weeks were negated by the down at the wrong time.
I was one who said that Mick Harford deserved a crack at the Conference, but I was wrong. His lack of tactical nous was his Achilles heel and the start we got under him was simply not good enough. Richard Money did turn the ship around and steered it to second place but he had to wait until the January window to complete the jigsaw.
This time there can be no excuses. He has had time to assess the playing staff and look at potential signings and by the start of next season we should have a squad capable of going all the way. I think he is the man for the job, and I wish him and the club every success.
This time we must continue with the great away form, but we must be unbeatable at home. We as fans must be patient in games where it is not going well early on and not get on the players' backs. They are as frustrated as we are, when that happens, but it can not be helpful if they are booed and cajoled; we must stand by them and try to lift them.
I sincerely hope that once the disappointment of this failure has subsided, that the supporters stick with the task of driving the team to glory and not dwindle the numbers.
