Luton loan star dies

Besian Idrizaj, the young striker that Luton Town took on loan from Liverpool in 2007, has sadly passed away at the age of 22 yrs.

He joined Luton, on loan in the Championship, on 16 March 2007, until the end of the 2006/07 season.

He made his début the day after, being substituted after 49 minutes. He played in a total of 7 matches for Luton, scoring one goal against Southend United.

He went back to Liverpool and played a prominent role in their reserve side until Swansea City took him on trial on the 18 August 2009 and he signed for the club on 22 August 2009.

Swans manager Paulo Sousa said of the player:

'He's not quite a striker but he is an attacking player, I know a lot about him and he is the sort of player that could fit into our squad.'

He played three league and 1 league cup games for the Swans, before returning to his native Austria at the end of the season.

Idrizaj died on 15 May 2010 at the age of 22, barely two weeks later.

It is reported from Austria that he passed away in his sleep and earlier beliefs that he had had a heart attack were later replaced by the news that it may have been a heart muscle virus which took his life.

t was also reported that Idrizaj had previously collapsed on two separate occasions while playing football: once during a trial with his former club LASK Linz in November 2008 and also during a match for Wacker Innsbruck in February 2008.

It is a very sad end for such a young and popular player.
