'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Luton part company with Brown

Luton Town have issued the following statement:

'Luton Town Football Club 2020 Ltd has today confirmed that Antony Brown has left the club to further his business interests.

Antony was an original member of the 2020 consortium that was formed in 2007 and saved the football club in 2008 by taking it out of administration. Antony's role was to rebuild the squad at the club and ensure that the new squad operates within the financial means of the club.

Antony said: 'I said at the start that the rebuilding of the squad would take three-to-four transfer windows. After two years of hard work I am very proud to have been part of building a squad that not only fits within the financial parameters of the club, but also to know that this squad has an excellent chance of being at the top come the end of this season.

I firmly believe that the club now has a squad fit for not only promotion into the league, but it is also capable of back-to-back promotions.

'My key role has been completed and the recent new additions are of an extremely high standard, so I am now able to move on to focus on my business interests that have been put on hold whilst I have been at the club.

'I'm excited about both my personal future but also about the future of Luton Town. You will see me around on matchdays and I'm sure the team will continue the excellent run we started earlier in 2010.'

Managing Director Gary Sweet said:

'Antony's results speak for themselves and every fan of Luton Town owes him a huge debt of gratitude. Without his commitment at the start, and his hard work since, this club would be in a very poor state indeed. In fact the 2020 consortium would not have got off the ground. He set out to do a job and has done it extremely well.

'On behalf of myself, the directors and shareholders, the staff, players and fans, I wish Antony every success and he should know that his work will never be forgotten. We know the sacrifices that he has made to be part of the 2020 team for nearly three years now, and so he fully deserves to replicate this success in his business. Whilst he will be leaving the club, we look forward to seeing him regularly at Kenilworth Road.'

Fellow director Stephen Browne said: 'Many will never know the full extent of the work that Antony has done during his time with 2020, but I can assure everyone that the commitment and sacrifices made by Antony have been massive and immeasurable - he has had a huge effect on the club.

'His love for the club is obvious, and the club owes him. We often recognise players or managers for their impact at Kenilworth Road, but this is one person who deserves to be mentioned in the same breath. We are very sad to lose a member of the team, but we are also delighted that because of what he has achieved here Antony can now focus on his business for the benefit of his family.'

Antony finished by adding: 'Personally I would like to thank my co-founder members of the 2020 group for their support during my tenure and to thank the board of investors for their invaluable belief and financial support of the 2020 Mission. I have no doubt that with this group of players, and the undoubted strength and skills of the board, that Luton Town Football Club will achieve success over the coming years.' ENDS

Thanks Antony. Your loyalty and dedication will never be forgotten.
