Luton get revenge!

Luton played their latest friendly at Marlow on Thursday as part of their 125th Anniversary celebrations and came from a goal down to win 3-1 and avenge the 3-0 defeat in the FA Cup against Gt Marlow on 31st October 1885, the first recorded match played by Luton Town FC after the merger of local sides Wanderers and Excelsior.

In commemoration of that match Luton played in a replica kit (minus the caps worn in the original match!) of blue and pink halves shirts and blue shorts.

The Hatters dominated the first half but failed to find a way through largely due to a decent display by the Marlow keeper.

At the start of the second half, triallist Daniel Walker, (who impressed playing for Bedford Town against the Town on Saturday) tangled with Gray on the edge of the penalty area and the referee awarded a spot kick which was converted by Woodward.

It was against the pattern of play for the whole night and Luton continued to play some tidy football.

On 68 minutes Howells drifted in unmarked at the far post and Gallen placed it perfectly for young Jake to head home the equaliser.

A couple of minutes later Stefan Bailey slipped a perfectly weighted pass for Gallen who poked it past a kamikazi charge from Watkins, the home keeper, who may have wished he'd stayed on his line.

Luton were rarely threatened by any forward play from Marlow and after Adam Watkins, on as a sub for the last 15 minutes or so, had tried a long shot, seeing the keeper off his line, and watched the ball fly over the crossbar, Keith Keane tried one from even further out, maybe as much as 40 yards, which looked to have been well within the compass of the keeper to save, but he let it slide through his hands and into the net for 3-1 on the stroke of full time.

It was a run out and no one looked to have been overtaxing themselves, although Stefan Bailey looked a lot sharper than in previous games and displayed some intelligent passing.
