After impressingin pre-season friendlies at Hitchin, St Albans and Stevenage, Brian Stein was reported as saying that he would like to see Lewis Emanuel against better opposition, but prior to Friday's friendly at home to Fulham, Emanuel signed a two year deal with the club.
The 22-year-old refused a new contract at Bradford City and was released by the club, so despite the Bosman ruling, which could have netted the Valley Parade club a fee, he was signed on a free transfer.
Lewis is an alternative to Paul Underwood, as he, like Unders, can play left back, wing back or left midfield.
The player was predicted a bright future and if he can secure a berth in the starting line-up, as Sol Davis and Unders are both struggling for fitness,he may prove to be yet another shrewd Newell signing.
