Luton boss looks to spend soon
In the wake of Steve Howard's transfer to Derby County and Kevin Nicholls expected move to Leeds United, Mike Newell has said that he hopes to have some of the funds generated for his rebuilding plans.
He mentioned the £ 3m sale of Curtis Davies together with the expected £1m windfall which looks likely if West Bromwich Albion agree to sell him, as looks likely, to Arsenal, plus the £1.7m from the sale of Howie and Nicho.
While he concedes that he will not have millions to spend, he has put in a bid for a striker and hopes to prioritise cover for central defence and at right back, in addition.
The central defender believed to be in discussion regarding a move to Kenilworth Road is Finnish International Miika Koppinen, who plays for Rosenborg, in Norway, and is a friend of Town defender Markus Heikkinen.
If terms are agreed he could arrive on a free transfer. The striker mooted is Hartlepool's Adam Boyd, (pictured above)with rumours of a £500K bid being rejected, coming from the North East, but my information is that £650K has been bid and is still on the table.
Hartlepool may be reticent to deal with Newell after his acrimonious departure prior to his joining Luton.
Mike is also known to be an admirer of Izale McCleod.

I suppose cause we've had a pretty settled and successfull side for the last 4/5 years change hurts a bit .But its the right time to rebuild and maybe , just maybe do what that lot from hertfordshire did last season , the jammy B's
