Luton agree fee for Boyd

Luton Town have today agreed a fee for Hartlepool striker Adam Boyd. The fee is as yet undisclosed but my information was that the last bid earlier this week was £650K while 'Pools were looking for £700K, so I guess it is somewhere between those figures.

Newell has been a long time admirer of Boyd and knows him first hand from his stint as Hartlepool manager.

Boyd was absent with a knee injury for much of last season but his goals per game record is not bad with 60 successes in 159 appearances.



Boyd stated on Hartlepool's website that he is in the best shape he has ever been in following his long term injury last season, and on Hartlepool's Vital website, fans who have seen him this pre-season have said that he looks fit and lean and hungry for football, so this may be a very good signing.

He is certainly not a Steve Howard type of player, at 5' 9" but is skilful and flambuoyant and likes to have a rapport with the fans.

Mike Newell has also spoken of a season long loan player from the Premiership, and his Blackburn and Liverpool connections have led to speculation that the player may be either Matt Derbyshire from Blackburn or Neil Mellor from Liverpool but Newell is never keen to make his targets known until they are virtually done deals. However! I believe it is Derbyshire.

A 20 yr-old striker with a lot of skill and pace, he has had loan spells at Plymouth and Wrexham, and Blackburn are ready to let him go out on loan again as they monitor his progress to see if he will fulfil the potential he has shown thus far.
