Barnet 2 Luton 1

After scoring 24 goals and conceding only 2 in their previous 5 pre-season matches, Luton were brought back down to earth with a bump at Underhill.

A lively Barnet team took the game to Luton and, despite Carlos Edwards firing Luton into the lead on 4 minutes, never really looked like losing the match.

Edwards'powerful strike was the sort of finish we had been looking for last season when he created good chances but couldn't finish them, but Barnet came back with some slick passing and positive football.

Jason Puncheon crossed for Hatch to equalise on 42 minutes and then on 64 minutes beat Perrett to drive the ball past Beresford to give the home side a 2-1 lead.

Barnet missed a host of chances to have made the margin bigger but it was Edwards who had Luton's best opportunity firing over the bar from 20 yards near the end.

Again Mike used the match to allow most squad members a run out, so it is impossible to read too much into the result.

Newell now has his work cut out to decide his best starting formation for the new season in front of Sky Sports cameras next Saturday.

It is possible there will be one or two new faces by then in addition to Adam Boyd who is spending the weekend sorting out his domestic arrangements and is expected to join his new team mates for training on Monday morning.
