Luton boss ready to sign.
After the debacle of Bill Tomlins announcing that Mike Newell was poised to sign his new contract several months ago, only for newell to refute the fact the next day, it appears that he is indeed about to do so now.
He is reported to have stated:
'I'm very close to a new contract - close enough that it might be done before the weekend.
'I decided I wanted to stay at Luton a long time ago. Now it's just a case of tying up a few loose ends. I'm totally committed - and I told the players so when they returned for pre-season.
'I've been telling everyone that our side will keep improving, because of their average age and thanks to the experience of a year in the Championship.
'It would not be right to tell the players that, and then leave the club.
'I have spoken to other clubs - but I was never convinced. I have never wanted to leave Luton.'

Just the fillip needed before the start of the season. Now all we need is a centre half, another striker and a right back by Friday and we can go ahead with some confidence!

Excellent news if he does sign, he's got the ability and guile to help Luton reach the next level, and he'll win the fans over with this show of loyalty, especially when 'bigger' clubs supposedly wanted him. Get that new stadium sorted and it'll be hard to stop us!
