How the public views us!
After watching many Luton matches and highlights of goals scored at our lovely old stadium on TV, the thing that always comes to my mind is how the armchair public sees us.
No one can doubt that, when our stadium is full to the brim and rocking, as it was last season, especially against the mighty Liverpool in the FA cup, it`s a great place to be. However, the view we portray to the TV watching public is more that of a Conference side with a row of temporary double-glazed portacabins down one side of our ground.
Now, on the other hand, if the camera angles were changed 180%, mounting the cameras above these 'greenhouses', the viewing millions would see where all the noise and atmosphere was being generated. We would look as though we have a real 4-sided football ground, if only on TV.
Sheffield United fans summed up the way we feel about these boxes last season, when thy burst into song, singing and pointing at them, 'WHAT THE F***ING 'ELL ARE THEY?'
We can`t make sweeping changes to the stadium with talk of a new ground on the horizon, but we could change the appearance of our ground when on TV, with a simple change of camera angles. I have been lucky enough to watch a couple of matches from these boxes, and it really does look better viewing the game from that side of the ground, looking across at the main stand, than viewing it the other way looking towards these monstrosities!
Bill Tomlins did say, at the start of our championship campaign last season, that this would be a good idea, so why haven't these changes been made? Come on, Bill, please build us a new camera gantry point, over the bobbers 'executive boxes', and change the way the viewing TV millions see Luton Town.

I agree 100%, thats the one bad thing about watching Luton on tv, makes us look as though we're playing in an allotment or something! Really shouldn't be too hard to change the angle, and would make it better for how the club is portrayed and will just make it a better game to watch, as there will be a better atmosphere and more to look at!

Valid points, unfortunately the TV cameras are always positioned facing east so that the sun is always behind them. You should still be proud, Luton. Successive promotions show the viewing public that it isn't the ground but the players and manager. Of course you will be the butt of opposition jokes but you can hold your heads high for the on-field achievments; and, unlike many clubs (eg Ipswich) your club OWN your ground and are still in the process of bringing it up scratch (Norwich editor).

DO we still own our ground? I'm a little bit scratchy on this, but I thought we had to sell it back to the council a couple of years ago and now we leese it off of them? I could be wrong mind, I could be thinking of a completely different club! If thats so, another reason we need a new ground asap!

The council own our ground, but the way I see it I think we need planning permission and the TV approval and I think that both counts went against Bill last season.

To be honest i dont really care how people percieve us. Especially about our Ground. I Actually enjoy talkng football with other lads wheather on Holiday or just locally in a Pub. I support Arsenal, Chelsea, me too , Liverpool, Arsenal, Man U....I support LUTON TOWN !!!!!!!!!!! silence and then "i remember going to Kenilworth Rd " and "Steve Fosters head band" and more recently "that game against Liverpool in the cup" Its great , and to be Honest you get Respect for it They dont feel sorry for you they just think He,s a REAL football supporter ,,

Good point, definately can't be accused of being a glory supporter! And the good times are well and truly on their way back, and we've got a team, and fans, to be proud of. Couldn't be prouder to call myself a Luton fan, and that always has been, and always will be, the case.

Would have to say I disagree, I think we've got the loss of Steve Howard under control with Adam Boyd and another striker coming in, and money to spare, and we seem to have plenty of players who seem capable of stepping in to Super Kev's place in midfield, it's Robbo who makes us tick as it is.

I HAVE DISCUSSED THIS ISSUE OVER THE WAY WE LOOK ON TV WITH WEMBLEY88 AFTER WATCHING A GAME FROM THESE BOXES .YOU REALLY SEE A DIFFERENT STADIUM, A DIFFERENT GAME AND WHEN A TOWN GOAL GOES IN JUST WATCHING THE MAIN STAND ERUPT IS SOMETHING SPECIAL SOMETHING THAT THE TV CAMREAS MISS, WALKING TO LAST SEASONS HOME GAME AGAINST CRYSTAL PALACE A COUPLE OF PALACE FANS SAID THEY LOVED COMING TO THE KENNY BECAUSE THE ATMOSPHERE IS SO GOOD BECAUSE THE CROWD ARE ONTOP OF THE ACTION SOMETHING THAT IS LOST IN MANY OF THE NEW STADIUMS BUT THESE NEW STADIUMS DO LOOK NICE ON TV ....A CATCH 22, AS ALWAYS WITH SUPPORTING LUTON!!!!!!
