Luton 6 Barrow 1

After the thrills and spills of the FA Cup 3rd round victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, it was back to the bread and butter of the Conference Premier last night.

Falling behind the pack, courtesy of runs in both the FA Cup and FA Trophy, allied with the odd game being postponed due to inclement weather, Luton were in need of a decent result against relegation threatened Barrow.

And that is exactly what the 5,165 who attended this fixture got.

Luton got off to a flying start and never looked back as they registered an emphatic 6-1 win, including a first Hatters hat-trick for Jon Shaw.

The rout started as early as the 2nd minute when Shaw saw a thunderous shot cannon off the bar for Scott Neilson t score on his Kenilworth Road debut.

Somehow Barrow weathered the storm until the 27th minute when Janos Kovacs, in acres of space, headed home before, a third goal, the first of Shaw`s three, two minutes later virtually wrapped the game up for Luton.

After the break, Shaw went into overdrive netting his second and third goals either side f the hour mark, or in the 59th an d64th minutes to be precise, both as the result of assists from Greg Taylor.

Barrow, in the 68th minute, netted a consolation through Adam Boyes but Luton scored a sixth, courtesy of Andre Gray`s 10th of the season four minutes later with seventy-two minutes on the clock.

The result moves Luton into the play-off positions some 8 points behind the leaders Wrexham, but with three games in hand and 6 points behind second placed Grimsby with the Hatters having two games in hand.
