With 6,001 inside Kenilworth Road, the home support were kept waiting until nearly full time for a Hatters goal.

As several started to drift away, with just three minutes left on the clock, up popped David Martin to score with a shot from just outside the area to give Luton the point they deserved, although on the balance of play, some might say they deserved all three.

But, as can often be the case, it was a game of two halves.

In the first half Luton were guilty of over-complicating matters and lacked penetration beyond the edge of the area. Hereford had the first major chance of the half but the impressive looking Jake Goodman got in a lively tackle to deny Josh O`Keefe

Unfortunately, Hereford were to take the lead when Marlon Jackson exposed a sluggish defence to streak away on a superb solo run to beat Mark Tyler with an excellent finish.

Going behind kick-started Luton into action and the Hereford keeper, James Bittner, did well to thwart Arnaud Mendy. Luton were almost on level terms minutes later when a free kick from Jonathan Smith took a deflection off a Hereford defender and smashed against the cross-bar.

Further attempts, from Jake Howells and Alex Wall, in the second half, were also thwarted before Goodman missed a great chance to get a goal on his Hatters home debut, by missing from six feet out.

Luton, however could have gone 2-0 behind when David Martin, on as a substitute, saw his attempted clearance cannon off the Luton bar, but just as the home support were starting to drift away, Martin made amends when from eighteen yards out, his left foot shot finally beat Bittner, in the Hereford goal.
