This time of the year is tough for footballers.
Having to shake off the close-season malaise is bad enough without having to open your pre-season friendly campaign in searing heat.
Therefore, here at Vital Luton Town we`re not too dejected by the fact that we went down 1-0 to Boreham Wood yesterday.
We`re sure that John Still will have the troops in prime condition for that first Conference fixture up at Southport.
However, what was noticeable yesterday was that the heat, allied with the physical exertion, saw several of the Hatters team struggling, a point Still commented on in the aftermath of the fixture, with the boss remarking about stiff muscles,
"We saw it with Alex Wall who came off because his calves were stiff."
"We saw Anthony Charles come off because his calves were stiff, we saw Scott Griffiths come off because his thighs are stiff, so it really, really was a tough, tough week, a really tough week."
"But they stuck to the task fantastically well. So I don`t think there`s anyone got an injury, I just think it`s a matter of stiffs and we knew that it would be like that."
"Which is one of the reasons we said 45 minutes for everybody. Jon Shaw unfortunately had to come on and play a bit longer, but we changed him with Mark Cullen towards the end."
I guess there`ll be a few aching limbs as the squad awaken this morning!
