'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Staines 0 Luton 0

A crowd of 621, including a couple of hundred Hatters fans, watched Luton and Staines play out a 0-0 draw in this FA Trophy tie.

The 0-0 draw means that both teams will meet at Kenilworth Road, this Tuesday, for a replay.

Ahead of this tie, Staines and Luton had never met in a competitive fixture before, unfortunately, with it being low on our list of priorities, John Still chose to select a young side that included two 17 year-olds.

The statistics show that the average age of the team was just 20, whilst the average age of the bench was a mere 18. Amongst the quartet making their debuts were two of the loan trio brought in earlier this week, Davis and Ruddock whilst Howells was appointed captain.

Luton had the first real chance at Wheatsheaf Park when Cullen went one on one with Turner, but the keeper, who was to have an outstanding game, saved well.

The Hatters continued to create chances with Viana, another making his debut, sending an effort wide of the post.

Our hosts were reduced to ten men, on the half hour mark, when Brown was sent off for two yellow cards, both for deliberate handball.

On the stroke of half-time, Luton created their best move of the half when Banton found Robinson but the resulting shot was wide of the target.

Luton started the second half well, Whalley engineered a cross but the header, from Cullen, was over the bar.

Going through the gears and creating several chances, Luton could only watch on as Turner, in the Staines goal, made a stunning treble save, first stopping an effort from Robinson and then blocking follow-up efforts from Cullen and Viana.

Still made a couple of changes, bringing on Alex Wall and Charlie Smith, as they looked for that vital goal, but Turner was not to be beaten, making another good save from Smith and a replay it was to be.
