'If It's Football, It's Vital'

That Was Some Battle!

In hindsight and on watching the re-run of the action last night it is probably fair to say that the Barnet game should either have been postponed or abandoned.

The pitch made the game a lottery and the standing water was never going to be conducive to good football.

But the game did go ahead and despite the referee holding a consultation with his other officials and the two captains, it did get played to a finish.

Afterwards John Still was as pleased as punch with the spirit shown by his side, remarking to the media after the game,

"I think the application of my team was fantastic."

"The conditions were unfair for both sides because you can do all the right things and still make a mistake but I think we dealt with it better."

"In my opinion I thought the pitch was unplayable before the game and from the first whistle I do not think the ball was rolling true but we just got on with it."

"In the back of my mind there is always the saying of 'winners find a way of winning` and we proved that today."

Personally, I believe that because the referee had started the game he`d backed himself into a corner and with over seven and a half thousand packed into Kenilworth Road it would have taken a brave man to abandon the game when we were 2-1 up!
