Hatters defender Sol Davis has suffered a stroke and will be out of football for up to six months.
The Luton left-back, who has only recently returned to first team action after a long term injury was taken ill on the team bus on the way to Ipswich yesterday.
Sol is recovering in Addenbrookes hospital Cambridge and is reported as being 'out of danger'.
Luton manager Mike Newell revealed the news after Luton's 5-0 defeat this afternoon.
Newell said: 'We suffered a very serious illness yesterday when Sol Davis was taken sick on the bus.
'We don't want misconstrued reports and we're not trying to sensationalise anything but it puts everything into perspective.
'We were about 20 to 25 minutes out of Luton when it happened.
'His feeling in his left side was affected and his speech. He's now in hospital and we believe he's made a bit of an improvement.
'Apparently it was a blockage in his brain that caused it. He's been given an indication that he could be out for anything between three and six months, but we're just interested in him making a recovery.
'We're not trying to make excuses about our performance because we will never know whether that affected the lads or not.'
Ipswich manager Jim Magilton said: 'The game pales into insignificance when you hear what has happened to Sol Davis.
'Everyone at Ipswich passes on their regards and we hope he goes on to make a full recovery.'
Get well soon Sol, our thoughts are with you.
