Enticing Pre-Season Fixtures!
The new season, in League Two as we mark our return to the Football League, may still be some way off but there is the plethora of pre-season friendly fixtures to look forward to.
Whilst Luton continue to assist the local clubs by sending Luton XI`s to play them, the Hatters support will be looking towards the games against the bigger clubs to, perhaps, gauge how the coming season might go.
Three games currently stick out and they are the games against league opposition in Peterborough United and Colchester United and the fixture against the Belgian side Royal Antwerp.
Hatters supporters of the older generation may recall that Luton have links with Antwerp with the Belgian club being the purchasers of a certain Peter Anderson when, as so often has been the case in our history, an urgent sale of a player was needed to generate funds to keep the club solvent.
Talking about the clash with Antwerp, John Still has remarked in the local media,
"It was something we found out they may be looking for, so we pushed it a little bit to see where it would take us and it worked out."
And on the remainder of the pre-season programme, the gaffer further added,
"Last season I wasn`t quite so happy with our mix of games, but our mix of games is spot on."
"Peterborough and Colchester are good games, Barnet`s a good game too."
"They`re tough competitive games from the league just below us that we`ve come out of, and the league just above us that we`d like to get into, so I`m really pleased."
For me, the action can`t come round quick enough!
