Luton: Loans not an option
Mike Newell has explained that the reason he has been unable to bring anyone in on loan is partially that the players he would like are unavailable, and others' wages are just beyond the Town's meagre wage budget.
Mike said: 'We can't afford to bring in Premiership players on nine or ten grand a week like some other clubs can, so we either get offered people with no experience or players who can't get a game.
'I'm making loads of calls, but clubs don't want to let good players go at this stage of the season.
'A lot of the time I'll ring up for someone I want, get told I can't have him, but get offered someone I don't want.
'I don't see the point of signing someone who won't improve the squad, or who I don't want just for the sake of it.'
Mike is, however, no fan of the loan system, probably for the very reasons cited above!
Personally, I believe that while the team is so depleted any capable defender would be an improvement on playing our own inexperienced players out of position.
