Luton got their pre-season friendly fixtures of to a cracking start last night with an emphatic 5-0 win over their local rivals Hitchin Town.

Cheered on by a travelling contingent of over 1,000 supporters, it was Alex Wall who proved to be the star of the show with a hat-trick.

The Hatters didn`t take long to edge ahead, with 12 minutes gone a ball from Howells was collected by Shaun Whalley who cut inside to fire past Tahj Bell in the Canaries goal.

The lead was doubled just before the half hour mark when from a perfect cross from a Whaley free-kick Alex Wall was on hand to turn the ball home.

Six minutes into the second half the lead was stretched to 3-0 when Alex Wall was on hand to volley home a decent cross from Howells.

Pressing for his hat-trick, Wall was fouled in the penalty area on 57 minutes, by David Corran and Alex Wall stepped up to fire the resulting penalty home.

With the game more than secure, John Still chose to make 10 substitutions to the side with everyone, apart from Steve McNulty, being replaced.

The Hatters grabbed a fifth goal, to wrap up the scoring, when a shot from Mark Cullen was deflected past the unlucky Bell in the Hitchin goal.
