Luton striker under the knife

Town striker Sam Parkin has required a further operation on the ankle injury which sidelined him for five months last year at Ipswich.

The 25-year-old, who joined the Hatters in a £340,000 move from Ipswich in August said:

'There have been complications with the surgery I had last season and I have had to have something major done again.

'I am not sure how long I will be out for - but it will be for a long time.'

Parkin, who cost Luton £340K,has scored one gosl for Luton and has been absent from the squad since the match away to Hull City in October.



arkin realises that he must make a full recovery this time or risk permanent damage.

'It is something I thought had healed but it had not really gone away,' he explained.

'It was not affecting me at the start of the season but then it flared up over the last month or so. I investigated it and realised something needed doing.

'I have had the operation and am non-weight bearing at the moment so it just a question of resting and playing again is a long way off.

'Not rushing back will be more important this time because maybe I came back a bit too soon last time - I will have to be very careful.

'The most important thing to remember is that I have got a number of years ahead of me and it is important that it is put right this time so it is the end of it.

'It is disappointing being out for any length of time but in the grand scheme of things it is better to get it sorted now than have more problems further down the line.'
