Luton Boss charged
Luton manager Mike Newell is once again in hot water with the FA.
As expected, his comments on the performance of female Assistant Referee Amy Raynor have drawn him a charge from the FA.
Mike has been charged with 'improper conduct'.
In his post match press conference, while still fuming that our good friend, referee Andy D'Urso, had failed to award Luton either of two penalty Kick appeals, Newell said that the use of female referees and assistants was 'tokenism for the politically-correct idiots'.
After a stand-off with the board following these comments and other comments about the chairman of the club, Newell was severely reprimanded by the Board. He had already made a public apology to Amy Raynor, although to be fair, her performance on the day was very poor for an official of either gender!
An FA statement said: 'Newell has been charged to the extent that his comments related to Amy Rayner personally.'

Newell has a point. Females tend to be intimidated at this level. As a referee I know that players will do anything to gain an advantage and you have to have belief and bottle to do the right things and I do not believe that many females have the strength required at professional level to deal with male players. That is not sexism it is an opinion based on experience. Newell is also correct in implying that the FA promote most women as a cosmetic exercise.
