Luton: Oops! Sol scores on comeback

Northampton Reserves fielded James Quinn, Ryan Gilligan and Jerome Watt from their first team squad against a Luton team which all have experience of first team action, but the biggest plus was the early return to the field of Sol Davis. It is almost miraculous that he is fit enough to play 67 minutes of football six and a half weeks after suffering a stroke.

Luton were awarded a penalty on 14 minutes when Tom Bonner fouled Warren Feeney. Adam Boyd struck the post with the kick and Luton failed to stamp their mark on the game.

On 38 minutes, Richard Langley crossed for Warren Feeney to have a header well saved by keeper Chris Dunn, and in the dying seconds of the half it took a great tackle by Danny May to take the ball off Adam Boyd`s toe at the expense of a corner.

Luton were brighter in the second half and Feeney headed over the bar before Holmes had his shot deflected wide.

From the corner, Russ Perrett gave Luton the lead after a goalmouth scramble saw the home defence fail to clear and the ball was poked home by the Luton defender.

The equaliser was not long in coming when Sol Davis defelcted Richie Jones's cross past Beresford as Quinn was bearing down on him. Never have I worried less about an own goal! It was just fantastic to know that Sol was out there at all!

Adam Boyd struck a firm shot goalwards but Dunn was equal to it and The Cobblers might have taken the lead themselves when Beresford save an overhead kick from Quinn.

Sol Davis made way for Danny Stevens after 67 minutes having taken eight throw-ins, completed 21 passes, seen 8 passes go astray, won four headers, four tackles and put in four crosses along with a goal on his comeback! Shame it was in the wrong end!

The game drifted to and end at 1-1 but both Sol Davis and Chris Coyne, who completed the full 90 minutes, both came through unscathed.
