Luton Accept Vine Offer

Luton Town have announced that they have accepted an offer of £2.5 million from Birmingham City for the services of Hatters striker Rowan Vine. The fee will rise to £3 million if Birmingham are promoted to the Premiership, which looks very likely.

Blues boss Steve bruce has been given permission to speak to Rowan to discuss personal terms.

The fee vindicates Mike Newell's faith in the players ability; many felt that the £250k paid to Portsmouth for the player was too much since he did not score too many goals in his season long loan prior to signing, but he was used as a foil for Steve Howard that year and as soon as he was deployed as an out and out striker he soon found himself among the goals.

It has to be seen as good business for the Town, and after John Mitchell had stated that even without sales there would be money available for strengthening the side in this transfer window, it is to be hoped that the sale of Carlos Edwards and Rowan Vine will increase the amount available to the Town boss.

He must now go out and find some more gems like these two, and above all else preserve Luton's Championship status.
