The Hatters drop two more points, at home, as their hopes of an automatic promotion place recede further.

Drawing 1-1 against Exeter City means that Luton Town have taken just 2 points out of the last 9 available, a worrying statistic with hopes of an automatic promotion place being secured come May.

Following the home defeat at the hands of Stevenage and the goal-less draw away to Carlisle, Nathan Jones would have been hoping that his side would get back to winning ways against their fellow promotion hopefuls Exeter City.

Exeter, looking to leap-frog Luton in the league Two table with a win, created the first chance when, with just fifteen minutes played, Matt Macey was forced into a near-post save to deny Reuben Reid.

Luton weren`t at their best early on and any attempts on goal were poor with an effort from Jonathan Smith going over. Jordan Cook fared a little better when a free-kick, from all of thirty yards out, just missed the goal.

The opening forty-five minutes ended with the Exeter City goalkeeper, Bobby Olejnik producing fine save to deny Jack Marriott with Danny Hylton, uncharacteristically, missing the following up.

The second half saw Alan Sheehan get in the way to block a shot from Reid before the same player fired an effort over the bar from a mere eight yards out.

However, the Hatters were to fall behind around the hour mark when a ball from Jack Stacey saw Jake Taylor beat Macey in the Hatters goal.

The Hatters response to going a goal behind was good though, Ollie Palmer saw his effort hacked off the line by Luke Croll before then producing a decent cross for Danny Hylton to head the equaliser in the sixty-eighth minute.

Both sides went in search of a winner, Hylton had a goal ruled out by the offside flag whilst Macey had to produce a smart save to deny Ollie Watkins.

The 1-1 draw sees Luton sitting in fifth place but six places adrift of Portsmouth who occupy the final automatic play-off spot. Perhaps more worryingly is that the Hatters, struggling to gather points in the last three games, are just two points ahead of Blackpool who are closing in on the promotion play-off places.
