Luton Town 8 (EIGHT) Yeovil Town 2

Luton Town got the 2017 / 2018 season started with an almighty bang at Kenilworth, hitting Yeovil Town for eight.

It is a very long time since I can recall the Hatters hitting eight goals in a league game and if the optimism levels were high before the kick-off, they`ve gone through the roof now.

With just over eight thousand inside Kenilworth Road, it was Yeovil that scored first when Otis Khan, stood over a free kick, some twenty-two yards out, curled a magnificent effort past Stech in the Hatters goal, silencing what had been an enthusiastic Luton crowd.

Thankfully the Hatters were behind for just five minutes before Olly Lee was on hand to volley home a cross from Isaac Vassell.

On the twenty-minute mark Luton edged 2-1 ahead when James Collins, making his league debut for the Hatters finished with aplomb, lifting the ball over the Yeovil keeper, Artur Krysiak, after being sent clear by Andrew Shinnie.

Four minutes later, Luton made it 3-1 when another debut boy, Alan McCormack hit a stunning volley from twenty-five yards out that flew into the top corner sending Kenilworth Road crazy.

With Yeovil on the rocks, the Hatters went for the jugular and a two-goal burst opened up a score-line we were only dreaming when Yeovil took that early lead. In the thirty-sixth minute Isaac Vassell netted and the striker, the subject of summer transfer interest, doubled his tally, making it 5-1, two minutes later.

The first forty-five minutes finished, with Yeovil wasting an opportunity to reduce the arrears when Marek Stech stepped up to pull off a save from a penalty from Otis Khan.

Half-Time - Luton 5 Yeovil 1

With Kenilworth Road buzzing after that first-half display it was to be Stech who was to make another fine contribution, early in the second half, when the keeper pulled off a fine save t stop Francois Zoko reducing the arrears.

But Luton were to get back into goal-scoring mode when James Collins added a double inside eight minutes. Collins made it 6-1 in the fifty-eighth minute before completing his hat-trick, scoring from twenty-five yards in the sixty-sixth minute, to make it 7-1.

Yeovil finally managed to reduce the arrears when Francois Zoko was on hand to head home a cross from Ryan Dickson, but it was Luton who were to have the final word when Elliot Lee, on as a substitute, headed home a free-kick from his brother Ollie deep into stoppage time.

A 10 out of 10 performance, from the Hatters, more of the same next time please Luton!
