Jones On Ipswich Defeat

Jones On Ipswich Defeat

Manager Nathan Jones has admitted two moments of quality from Ipswich Town made the telling difference in the League Cup first round tie on Tuesday evening.

Hosting the side at Kenilworth Road, Luton lost out to an David McGoldrick brace in what otherwise was a very balanced affair in terms of chances and possession, but Jones knew both goals were quality and unfortunately we couldn't match them.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media following the game, Jones explained that had Elliot Lee's effort just before the half time break gone in, we could've been talking about a completely different end to the game.

'There are still elements of naivety because they`ve got real Championship quality and David McGoldrick has been one hell of a player for a good while. That was the difference really - two bits of quality from him won them the game. I don`t think we deserved to concede the second goal, but we have to eradicate that.'

Jones went on to say that he couldn't be anything but proud of the effort and commitment put in by the players though.

'As far as performance wise and how we went about our work, I`m very proud of them - they worked tirelessly, moved the ball really well and to be honest, we had the best chances in the first half.'

Adding.

'Elliot Lee`s missed an absolute glorious opportunity to send us in level and we were making all the running and they were just trying to pick us off on the counter attack. I was very pleased. We acquitted ourselves really well and it was a really evenly contested game, so I`m very proud of them today.'
