Luton Town 3 Colchester United 0

Luton got back to winning ways against Colchester United, at Kenilworth Road, with a convincing performance that lifts them to third in the table.

The Hatters, having lost away to Barnet last weekend, fought hard in the first-half to get that vital breakthrough and it was to come on the stroke of half-time when Ollie Lee managed to fire home, at the second attempt when Colchester failed to clear a corner.

Earlier in the half, Stech had to produce a fine save to keep out a long-range effort from Doug Loft whilst Sam Walker, in the Colchester goal, did well to keep out a header from Danny Hylton.

Lee thought he`d put Luton ahead but Walker produced a good save before Andrew Shinnie, given a chance to shoot, shot straight at the keeper.

Emerging for the second-half a goal to the good, the Hatters wrapped up the points when James Collins curled a superb effort past Walker and into the top corner of the net.

Leading 2-0, Colchester were deprived of a chance to get back into the game when Stech produced a stunning save to keep out a close-range header by Sammie Szmodic.

A third goal almost came for Luton but Hylton saw his header smack against the bar. Alan Sheehan was to hit the woodwork also with a volley but the game was finally put to bed when Dan Potts touched home from a Sheehan free-kick with seven minutes of the game left.
