Crewe 1 Luton Town 2
Luton maintained their position at the top of the League Two table with an impressive win against a gallant Crewe side at Gresty Road.
The Hatters lead League Two on goal difference from Notts County, but the two teams now have established a four point gap between themselves and the third place side, Accrington, with Exeter a point further behind in fourth place.
Against Crewe, the Hatters had to work hard for the points. The Hatters thought they`d opened the scoring when Elliott Lee headed home but the goal was disallowed for a push.
Ollie Lee then had a great chance to score when the Crewe keeper, Dave Richards dropped a cross but the midfielder blasted the ball over the bar.
Crewe also threatened to open the scoring but Marek Stech managed to get down at his near post to save from Chris Dagnall.
But the deadlock was broken in the second half when Elliott Lee pulled the ball back from the by-line for Danny Hylton to smash the ball home off the underside of the crossbar.
Having taken the lead, the Hatters doubled it four minutes later when a clearance from Brad Walker was charged down by Andrew Shinnie and Luke Berry drilled the ball home.
But Crewe managed to get themselves back into the game to provide a nerve-racking finish when Johnny Mullins contrived to turn a cross from Eddie Nolan into his own net.
Thankfully, Luton held on and took the three points to continue their promotion push.
