Making the journey north, to see the Hatters take on a side who were, before kick-off, sitting second from bottom of League Two, we were all of the opinion that Luton would walk into town, take the three points on offer and return south in a buoyant mood.

But it didn`t quite happen like that did it!

Instead, the Hatters were beaten 2-0 by a side that didn`t look as if they were fighting to retain their Football League status.

The Hatters fell behind in the 19th minute when a cross from Robbie Weir was fired home, from eight yards out, by Jack Rowley.

Before the Hatters could get acclimatised to being a goal down they suddenly found themselves 2-0 down when James Justin was adjudged to have tripped the former West Ham player, Zavon Hines, in the box and Jak McCourt stepped up to score.

Looking to get back into the game, the Hatters wasted a good chance, before half-time, when Andrew Shinnie shot over from ten-yards out and then saw another shot, minutes later, saved.

However, Luton almost fell three behind on the hour mark hen Marek Stech was forced to pull off a great save to keep out an effort from 25-yards by Louis Reed.

The piece of Hatters action, two minutes from time, saw Jordan Cook force a save out of the Chesterfield keeper, Aaron Ramsdale.

The defeat saw Luton`s lead at the top of the table cut to three points after Notts County picked up a point on their travels.
