Luton in for loan duo

Mike Newell is today trying to secure the services of Everton striker James Vaughan, and Reading's central defender Aaron Brown.

Vaughan, once dubbed the new Wayne Rooney, is blessed with great pace and he became the youngest player ever to score in the Premiership, with goal against Crystal Palace two seasons ago at the age of 16 yrs 271 days.

18 yr old Vaughan has dropped down the order at Goodison and has not seen much first team action, although he scored against West Ham in December and twice for England U19s against Poland recently.

He was apparently due to come sooner but the injury to Andy Johnson required manager Davis Moyes to shelve the idea until he was sure Johnson was not to be a long term absentee.

Luton were close to signing Brown on a permanent transfer on deadline day only for the player to fail a medical.

There was not enough time to negotiate a deal on a different basis, and, as the player was not fully fit after an ankle injury, Newell reluctantly backed out of the deal.

Brown has now recovered and Newell hopes to bring in both Brown and Vaughan in time for Saturday's visit to Stoke, both initially on one month loans.
