Luton 4 Crawley 1

Luton 4 Crawley 1

The Hatters got back to their free-scoring best when they entertained Crawley in a League Two fixture, at Kenilworth Road.

A 4-1 win ensure that Luton remain six points clear at the top of the table, however, with all their promotion rivals also winning, any hopes of the lead being extended were thwarted.

Luton got off to a good start putting Crawley on the back-foot with their goalkeeper, Glenn Morris, making saves to deny Harry Cornick and Olly Lee and when he was beaten, by a volley from James Collins, the woodwork came to his rescue.

However, the deadlock was finally broken in the twenty-eighth minute when Lee netted.

The goal should have opened the floodgates but the Hatters were to be wasteful in front of goal with Cornick seeing a header saved by Morris, Rea having an effort hacked off the line and Collins being thwarted by a spectacular save by Morris.

A rare excursion forward by Crawley saw Jordan Roberts hit the post.

But, on the stroke of half-time, Luton doubled their lead when Collins netted his first of the evening, with the former Crawley striker seeing his header, from a corner, deflected past the unfortunate Morris.

Half Time - Luton 2 Crawley 0

The opening stages of the second forty-five minutes saw Crawly exert the pressure, trying to get back into the game, with Thomas Verheydt and Enzio Boldewijn both going close.

But, in the fifty-sixth minute, Luton killed the game off by making it 3-0 when Luke Berry was on hand to drill a shot past Morris.

Fourteen minutes from the end of normal time, Luton made it 4-0 when Collins was fouled in the penalty area and picked himself up to send Morris the wrong way with his resulting penalty kick.

Disappointingly, the Hatters hopes of a clean-sheet were ended when, three minutes from time, Crawley snatched a consolation goal through Karlan Ahearne-Grant.

Onwards and upwards for the Hatters.
