Size does matter

I`ve been thinking... Honestly! I have!

Now that we`ve gone down a division, I am beginning to worry that our squad is too... little.

I`m not talking numbers; I`m talking sheer bulk. I mean, everyone knows the further down the divisions you go, the more physical the game becomes. The Premiership relies on skill and agility. The Conference relies on sheer force and the will to get the ball in the back of the net, by violence if they have too.

My point is that we had no hatchet men this season and it cost us dear. We tended to let other sides bully us around the field and thus intimidate the referees.

We once had a stalwart of a captain in Kevin Nicholls and, while I was a fanatical supporter of his, I still thought he was never… Dare I say it… hard enough'.

Perhaps I was spoilt, as a kid, being able to watch MICKY HARFORD at weekends, but let's face it - HE WAS TOUGH. I mean 'proper 'ard!` Not like your Vinny Jones, who had to puff himself up as the nutter he never really was.

Anyhow, what I`m saying is: During the Kenilworth Clearout, let us hope that Kevin Blackwell brings in a real figurehead, to show the fans we mean business. Someone, the very mention of whose name instils fear enough to cause opposition defenders to feign injury for that game, so that they don`t have to face him!

Someone who could score merely by looking at the ball and who wears short sleeves in January and doesn`t need an Alice Band.

But Who ?

The only person who springs to mind is Gordon Ramsay and he`s a F***ING chef… And Scottish… but 'proper 'ard!`
