Luton to add Hutch today

Kevin Blackwell is set to complete the signing of 36-year-old Don Hutchison today.

The ex Coventry midfielder has impressed the manager in training and in Norway and will sign a one year deal.

Blackwell has also admitted that he needs more defenders and a goalkeeper and stated that he is in the process of rectifying that situation.

He told Luton today website:

'We need another centre-half now and I'm talking to certain people at the moment.

'I'm also looking for another goalkeeper and I will definitely be signing someone in that position - Brill and Beresford both need a bit more competition.

'I'm looking to add more players and that's where the trialists come in.

'We've got contacts all around Europe now and hopefully we'll be able to unearth at least one gem.

'We need to make sure that when players are recommended to us that we can at least have a look at them.

'The chairman has said these players could be his 'Koi carp pond'.

'They may take a year or so to develop, but they could end up being worth a lot to the club.'

Regarding Barnett's departure he went on:

'Leon didn't play in Norway and you can't ever fool the fans.

'We've had an offer for him from West Brom and I said to Leon 'if you want the opportunity to speak to them, it's there'.

'You can't deny people the opportunity to progress and that's the situation here.'

Blackwell also indicated that it is unlikely he will follow up his initial interest in ex-Cameroon international Joseph Ndo.
