Luton impress Diamonds camp

My Rushden contacts were impressed with Luton's showing at Nene park on Saturday.

Although it was often played in ultra-friendly mode the Diamonds management were very complimentary about their play.

Diamonds have played Nottingham Forest and Ipswich and both brought strong line-ups, and I was told that Luton are much better than Forest and at least as good as Ipswich if not better.

Kevin Blackwell's opinion as told to Luton Toaday was:

'It's the first proper pre-season game for us no doubt about it.

'I'm really pleased. We played some great stuff and should have finished them with some of the approach play we produced.

'That was Rushden's sixth pre-season game and they've had some big ones against the likes of Nottingham Forest and Ipswich so we new it was going to be tough.

'But we dominated it and I think it was about five minutes until they even got into our half. (Ed - Except for the open goal missed by the home side after about 20 seconds Kevin!)

'Playing good football is what we're renowned for, but we have to earn the right to play and not be afraid to put your foot in.

'The Rushden lads were well up for it and wanted to show why they feel they should be back in the Football League - it was what we wanted.'
