Luton beat Oxford

goal each for Drew Talbot and Dean Morgan was enough to give Luton a 2-1 victory in tonight`s friendly against Oxford United.

On 29 minutes Talbot turned and fired home from 8 yards to give Luton the lead and on 34 minutes Paul Furlong slipped a nicely weighted pass into Morgan`s path and the winger gleefully smashed it high into the net for 2-0.

The match was much in the mode of the Saturday game with Luton passing the ball around but with little passion being shown, but the plus point was that Paul Furlong looked as though he was settling down to play some half decent football and was unlucky on several occasions not to score. Home keeper Billy Turley denied him three times with some excellent saves.

Oxford pulled one back through Alex Jeannin eight minutes from time and late on Morgan and Hutchinson were replaced after picking up slight injuries, but the match petered out.

The game served to get some more minutes play into the team but that was about all that could be said for it as there was little entertainment value aside from Morgan's goal.

Kevin Blackwell began the match with those who were not starters at Rushden except the only two centre backs and the only goalkeeper available keeping their places. Keith Keane recovered from a dead leg, picked up at Dagenham, to take the right back berth. Peschisolido and Currie were rested.
