Luton: reserves beat Posh

Luton's reserve team enjoyed a comfortable victory over Peterborough United Reserves at Kenilworth Road this afternoon.

Taking a 1-0 lead into the break after good work down the left by Morgan saw the ball ricochet into the net off the head of Peterborough's Gourlay, the Hatters really should have chalked up a far more comprhensive scoreline.

A string of missed chances in the first half was followed up by many more in the second.

On 65 minutes Marlon Beresford got down well to a Gavin Strachan shot but didn't hold it and Potter netted the rebound but Potter had been offside when the original shot came in and it was ruled out.

5 minutes later Posh had the ball in the net again when Reed crossed for Keats to head home with Marlon rooted to his line when he ought to have come out and claimed the ball.

Less than two minutes later, Luton were back in front again when substitute Elliott Osborne-Rickets hit a screamer into the top corner with Peterborough keeper Jalal a stunned spectator.

On 81 minutes, the lively Dean Morgan sent a teasing cross into the danger area and Paul McVeigh got something on it to steer it into the net at the near post.

Triallist David Pilgrim, a right back from Crystal Palace's reserve team did OK for the hour he was on, although he picked up a yellow card for a very rustic challenge on the speedy Mackail-Smith, but Osborne-Ricketts looked a class above him once he replaced him.

It was a good work out for the Town first team squad players, and McVeigh looked as though he could be a contender for a starting place on Friday.

Luton Reserves: Beresford, Pilgrim (Osborne-Ricketts 60), Emanuel (Hogarth 83), Hutchison, Fojut, O'Leary, Morgan, Grant (Charles 88), Andrew, McVeigh, Brkovic

Substitutes not used: Faulds, McGuinness
