Luton today confirmed that they have lodged an appeal against Marlon Beresford's red card at Preston on Saturday.
As stated on this site, Marlon patently did not deny an obvious goalscoring opportunity, therefore the red card was contrary to law. As an FA licensed referee instructor and assessor,I e-mailed the club over the weekend with my opinion on the decision. Whether they had already decided to appeal before that I do not know, but I cannot see how the FA could possibly fail to overrule the decision.
Speaking to the official website, Mike Newell said, 'we have appealed against thr red card but I don't know where we are going to.The FA will have to give us a decision by tomorrow afternoon.
We would have no problem throwing Dean Brill in but I do feel that there is a point to be made.
The law states that the player has to be denied a goalscoring opportunity, which Beresford clearly hasn't'
