Hi Guys.

The Vital network has received a warning through a solicitor about serious breaches of copyright, on one of the club sites. It is not allowed to cut and paste whole stories from other sources.

It is OK to use quotes like:

Mike Newell told the club's official website " Blah blah" but not the whole story.

It is ok to provide a link to the original story with your own words to give the gist.

All eds have been instructed to edit out whole story cut and pastes.

was the warning specifically Luton ?

are the thought police on our backs ?

The reason to copy the article is that the people change the info on the link. One day it says one thing............the next day its different. If they put the info on the internet its in public domain. A link lets everyone know where it came from.
This copyright thing is very new and American and has no basis on UK law.
Alledgedley imho

It was not the Luton site, and may prove that way ultimately but the Vital Directors and it related to a headline article on the front page but at the moment they would rather it didn't happen on forum until their position is ascertained. That doesn't mean it can't be quoted, just not reproduced in full.

not just fatterhatters comments but those of us that work arent allowed into every site therefore copying whole stories gives us the ability to get a total perspective without being reported to a jumped up it administrator at work!

If something is on another web site then strictly speaking you are not allowed to just take it, it is protected under copyright conditions. It's just that most people/organisations are not too worried, especially if you have a link to the original source which should mean more visitors to their site.

If they do want to make an issue of it then Vital Football could find themselves in hot water.

Moron alert - My name is Michael and I work for Norfolk County Council and if I write anything this obnoxious again on this website that nice Mr Scotty is going to contact my employers.
