Brentford vs. Luton Town

Griffin Park

19 Sept 2006

7-45 pm

Brentford v Luton

After a poor result at Cardiff. Luton have an early opportunity to regain their confidence at League One Brentford in the Carling Cup. They will need a better performance than they mustered in the previous round at Bristol Rovers, when they had to rely on penalty kicks despite dominating proceedings. Luton are struggling with injuries but will still hope to field a strong team.

Vital Quotes:

Brian Stein said:

'We know they'll be a difficult side to play against.

'It will be a footballing cup tie, because they like to play the ball out from the back, so it should be an attractive game.'

Brentford Team News:

Brentford should have a full squad to choose from and manager Rosenior is unlikely to change the team which lost to Swansea.

Player to watch: Jo Kuffour

Could be a bit of a handful for a depleted Luton defence.

Luton Town Team News:

Sol Davis is out for 2 weeks with a groin strain and Chris Coyne also picked up a knock on Saturday. Underwood is still a long way off and Russ Perrett is still doubtful. With Lewis Emanuel suspended after his red card at Cardiff, Luton are in dire straits for a left back. I would expect Keith Keane to play there.

Sam Parkin has found the physical demands of three first team matches in a week too much after having been out of first team action for so long prior to that, and will be rested for Saturday's home match against West Brom, to allow a swollen ankle to recover.

Heikkinen may also be rested after a hectic period including two international games. If required the tea lady may travel to play in defence!

Player to watch: Adam Boyd

Will want to show that he can find the net and make the step up to first team football.

Match Facts & Stats

Luton have failed to win at Griffin Park since September 1992, losing four and drawing three since then.

This will be the first time the teams have met in the League Cup, but overall stats between the teams are:

Luton 32 wins, 23 defeats and 14 draws
