Luton Town vs. Burnley

Luton v Burnley

Burnley come to Luton inm cracking form and would be tough opposition with a full squad available to Mike Newell. In the event, Luton have to deal with the vagaries of a small squad, and will have to give more than they did at Portman Road on Sunday to survive in this game let alone win it.

The Clarets are the only team left in the League to be as yet unbeaten away from home, so it will have to be a special performance to overcome them.

Just as the Sol factor seemed to drag the team down on Sunday, they have had not only a rude awakening, but time to reflect, and I anticipate a different Luton performance tonight.

Vital Quotes:

Mike Newell on lutontown.co.uk:

'Everything's against us at the moment in terms of injuries and illness, and the fact that we've had two big defeats and we're going into a game against Burnley - who are in a bit of form and have had an extra couple of days to prepare for the game - the odds are stacked against us a little bit.

'But that's when you find out about people, and that's when you find out about your players and what they're made of.'

Steve Cotterill on Burnley's Official website:

We have an idea why the results have started happening away from home, but we'll only have a better idea of whether it's true at the end of the season.

'First, we know we have a tough game at Luton. Away from home it has been good and we have played well all this season, but the more we talk it up the more others are going to want to dent it, so I'll stay away from that one.

'I would imagine it would be a decent game because we had two good games against them last year. We are just looking forward to it.'

Luton Town Team News:

Luton's injury and illness woes do not improve in fact they are getting worse.

Sol Davis is an obvious absentee, but with Underwood still out and the new injury to Lewis Emanuel, Luton have no left backs available.

Markus Heikkinen is still ill, but Mike Newell will wait until the last minute to see if he feels well enough to play. If he can then poor old Keith Keane who rarely gets a chance in his own position, will deputise at left back.

Russ Perrett may deputise in Cebtral defence if he is fit enough.

Sam Parkin needs specialist intervention for his injured ankle after an injection did nothing to improve it.

If Heikkinen does not make it, and Perrett proves to be insufficiently fit for 90 minutes, Luton may be reduced to playing Adam Boyd at centre back or leave Keane in the centre and play Ahmet Brkovic at left back. None of these are ideal scenarios against an in-form Burnley team.

Player to watch: Rowan Vine

If he gets the service (and a fair crack of the whip from the oficials! :-;)he could keep the Town in the match.

Burnley Team News:

Burnley look to chosse froma full squad, although skipper Wayne Thomas faces a late fitness test.

Player to watch: Andy Gray

Gets into the right positions and scores plenty of tap ins. The rudimentary Luton back four will have to keep a close eye on him.
