Luton visit Deepdale next licking their wounds after two disappointing defeats at the hands of Ipswich and Burnley. It is not the match they would have wanted with such chaos in the ranks with injuries and illness but they will have to gird themselves and get on with it. Memories of last season's trouncing by 5-1 in a game that they did not deserve to lose will perhaps generate some passion and fighting spirit, and they may just get a surprising result.
Mike Newell spoke of his injury ridden team on www.lutontown.co.uk:
'You never know how close they are but Chris (Coyne) has been running this week and started his training, although he's not back in training with us yet.
'Paul Underwood has also started running and has had a scan which has completely cleared him of the infection, which is great news for him.
'Hopefully, by the end of the month we can have them both in contention.'
'Markus (Heikkinen)will be over his illness completely by the weekend, so there will be no doubt over him.'
Lewis Emanuel has made much quicker progress than anticipated, but is still a major doubt for the game at Preston.
'Hopefully, Lewis's injury is not as serious as we first feared. Whether he makes it for the weekend or not, I don't know.'
'Kevin (Foley) we'll leave as late as possible. He was feeling it the other night and we didn't want him out for weeks so we didn't take the risk. Ideally, he'll train tomorrow and let us know how it is then.'
Paul Simpson told PNE's official website:
'I'm sure they (Luton) will want to win for themselves and for Sol. The news about Sol's illness, if you can call it that, has really shook everyone in football and we all wish him a speedy recovery because it was a terrible incident, but they'll be looking to get a result. I saw Mike Newell's interviews after their games and at no time has he used this as an excuse but I'm sure it must have shook everybody and they'll be looking to get back to winning ways as soon as they can.'
Danny Dichio will be suspended for the match but other than that Paul Simpson expects to have a full squad to choose from.
Preston are dangerous in most positions but especially in the shape of Nugent. He conjures goals from nothing and is the one to watch on Saturday.
Markus Heikkinen, has now completely recovered from the chest infection that has kept him out for two weeks.
Kevin Foley will face a late fitness test and Lewis Emanuel could feature if he continues to improve.
Sam Parkin looks likely to miss out.
Has looked good in recent games and may well get on the score sheet.
