Stoke City vs. Luton Town

Britannia Stadium

17 February 2007

Potties v Hatters

Luton return to the Britannia Stadium to play Stoke, who in recet history ahve become a bit of a bogey team.

Despite playing well against them, Luotn seem destined to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory at their hands.

However, with points at a premium in the lower reaches of the division, I am sure the team will be doing their utmost to deliver an upset.

Vital Quotes:

Mike Newell on www.lutontown.co.uk:

'Certainly last season's game was a massive disappointment because we played very well there, and for a large part of it we played with ten men, after Howard was sent off in the first 20 minutes.

'Then we conceded a late goal which was a bit of a worldy in the top corner.'

'It hit us hard that day but we'll go there the same as we go anywhere - aiming to beat them. You need to win games in this league, but points will add up eventually if we don't get beat.'

Stoke City Team News:

Midfield trio of Lee Hendrie, Salif Diao and Darel Russell all return from suspension, with last week's midfield of Dominic Matteo, Lee Martin and John Eustace probably vying for a place on the bench to accommodate them.

Ricardo Fuller and Mamady Sidibe (back from a trip to France after becoming a father in mid-week) should form the strikeforce with Adam Rooney on the bench. Vincent Pericard remains sidelined with a knee injury.

Player to watch: Lee Hendrie

Can provide the drive to win matches and will 'win' free kicks or penalties due to the 'lightness of his balance' ;-)

Luton Town Team News:

Markus Heikkinen returns after a long lay-off with a gashed shin. Dean Morgan and Lewis Emanuel are fit again but the game comes too soon for Feeney, Brkovic, Barnett and others!

Player to watch: Bjorn Runstrom

He has had a couple of weeks training with the players now and it is to be hoped that he can cause a few surprises in the Stoke penalty area.

Match Facts & Stats

Overall Luton's record against Stoke is won 9 drawn 12 and lost 16 but in recent years it has not been good.
