Leeds v Luton

It was always going to happen! Tresor Kandol scored the only goal of the match to give Leeds a rather fortunate victory over a Town side who gave as good as they got and dominated play for long periods.

Kevin Blackwell was given a rousing cheer by the Leeds faithful but underlying resentment came to the fore at the end with an unseemly confrontation between the poison dwarf and the Hatters manager and his assistant.

The only goal was as a result of Alan Goodall misplacing a pass which was seized upon by Leeds allowing Carole to find Kandol to net past the Town loan keeper Forde.

Luton made several half chances but it was one of those days when the ball always seemed to break to a Leeds player in their box and the away side's finishing was slightly wayward.

Leeds stood off and allowed Luton to attack them in the second half and on another day Luton would have taken their chances and won handsomely.

Kevin Blackwell will no doubt draw several positives from the game, not the least of which would be the form of Matthew Spring and Drew Talbot who both gave excellent performances.

Dean Morgan, a substitute in the second half also showed some good moves and Paul McVeigh was unlucky not to have equalised late on.

The biggest surprise of the day was that referee Oliver, who last season was one of the most card happy referees on the elite list, depite having several opportunities to have got out his yellow card in a somewhat niggly encounter, managed to go the whole 90 minutes without doing so.

Leeds United: Ankergren, Richardson, Douglas, Marques, Heath, Prutton, Thompson (Clapham 73), Beckford, Carole, Kandol, Hughes.

Subs not used: Martin, Howson, Parker, Ameobi

Luton: Forde, Goodall, Perry, Coyne, Bell, Currie (Morgan 63), Edwards, Talbot (McVeigh 76), Keane, Spring, Furlong (Andrew 76).

Star Player

Matthew Spring - 8 - Worked his socks off and hardly misplaced a pass all day.
